These collars are gentle on the dog's neck but can be effective, when used correctly, in training heelwork. Whilst walking, the collar should sit at the top of the neck, just under the chin, and the lead should be held vertically. This way it doesn’t put pressure on your dog’s throat and trachea, but restricts their ability to pull.
Martingale collars are popular for sighthounds, greyhounds, salukis and similar breeds as the collar is gentle on the neck but also prevents the dog from slipping their collar.
